Outdoor and Adventurous learning at Queen’s Crescent School is very important as we strongly believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom. Children's intellectual, social, cultural, spiritual and emotional development can be enhanced and enriched by active participation in experiences not available inside.
We are particularly proud of our outstanding Early Years provision both inside and outside the classroom. In February 2012 we had our outdoor learning environment redesigned, allowing this new area to further increase opportunities for learning across the Early Years curriculum. In January 2014 we also developed the outside area of the Year 1 mobiles with the children and as part of an outdoor extra-curricular club.
We are continually developing and improving the school grounds at Queen’s Crescent School.
Our school grounds have many areas and the children can access all these areas.
- All weather Learning trail around the field with a play bridge
- Story telling area and benches
- Maths and music learning area
- Den building and wooded areas

- Playing fields and hedges
- Willow structures and tunnels
- Playground equipment, trim trails and tangle tree climber
- Vegetable gardens
- Orchard and wild area for science exploration.

In the summer of 2014 we are planning to have an outdoor stage, amphitheatre and further musical instruments to promote outdoor performances. This will further improve standards in speaking and listening as part of the school development plan.
We actively support children that cycle, scoot or walk to school and have bike and scooter racks and shelters for waiting parents. We do however; require that children dismount before they enter school for the safety of all children. We also have a ‘Bike It crew’ that help arrange regular Bike It breakfasts and cycle to school events. We have recently worked with the Local Authority to have two crossing installed near to the school to encourage children to walk to school safely.
