Parent Questionnaire -  March 2017

Whilst we are pleased with the response we are always striving to improve, so we are presently making a number of changes.

I would also like to thank everyone for their written comments. We had lots of individual positive comments and some very welcome suggestions of ways that we can make the school even better.

I have included some that sum up the responses:

‘Queen’s Crescent is an excellent school.  I have two children at QC, who have very different strengths and weaknesses.  In my experience the staff have always made an incredible effort to challenge and support them to grow and succeed. ‘

‘I have not answered number 8 as we have not been involved with a situation like this.  However my child has been taught about the different types of bullying and is aware that if is wrong and what to do if he is worried about anything.  Queen’s Crescent is a really lovely school with staff who really do care and work hard.’

‘We feel our child has made good progress so far and Mrs Garton and the TA’s really know him and his strengths and challenges.  The communication between the school and us as parents is fantastic and the learning they provide gives my child lots of opportunities to develop.’

‘On the whole very happy – my child is very settled. Would definitely recommend Queen’s to friends/family.’

‘The school is great and my child is happy.’

‘Parents evening later and arranging appointment online is so much easier, thank you for listening.  I’ve no complaints at all, everything is fantastic.’

‘We have had a few personal issues and have notified teachers and Headmistress and I feel they have been very empathic and professional.’

‘The FS2 workshops have been very well presented and helpful and the home learning enables us to reinforce our child’s learning at home which we find very positive.’

‘No experience of bullying so unable to comment.  That’s not a bad thing!’

‘Very pleased with school and how well my child has settle.  Everyone is so friendly from staff to even mums of older children.’

‘Lovely school, excellent teaching staff and TA’s would highly recommend.’

‘This is a fantastic school.  The staff are wonderful.  Mrs Hawkins is a superb Headteacher.  My son thrives here.  Information is plentiful.  There is great communication between teachers and parents.’

‘Excellent school.  They have gone above and beyond to help.  Extra learning support to catch up with my child.’

‘Due to financial circumstances we had to move to Pewsham but had no doubts about keeping the girls at Queen’s Crescent.  They are very happy and doing amazing with their studies.  The support we get from teachers, especially during a hard emotional period for one of our daughters, only strengthens our commitment and loyalty towards the school.’

‘My child’s year 1 teachers are outstanding.’

Whilst our anti bullying policy is available in the policies section of the website, the fact that some parents are unsure about it, suggests that we need to be more proactive in explaining what we do.  We have attained the BIG (Bullying Intervention Group) award and the SEND anti-bullying award in recognition of the work the school presently does to ensure that bullying incidents are very rare within our school. Online safety is carried out regularly in every year group.

We are continually reviewing our homework policy and the amount of home learning your child receives in order to support in class learning and prepare your child for secondary education and the future. We are also reviewing the way that home learning is marked to order to encourage your child to be engaged in their home learning and hence eager to succeed. We always value your feedback on this.

We continue to look at ways to improve the communication between home and school and we now have a Twitter account, Year group and Friends’ Facebook pages, newsletter and the website. The text and e mail system also works well to convey information quickly, as does the class pages on the website. We are always looking at ways to develop this further and again value your feedback on this.

We are proactive in holding a number curriculum workshops and’ Meet the Teacher evenings’ to help parents support their child’s learning throughout the year. We also send home reports twice a year and hold parents’ evenings three times a year to inform parents about progress achieved. If you feel there is another area of learning that you would like further support with, please let us know.

For myself I would like to say that it is a privilege working at Queen’s Crescent School with such a strong team, great children and supportive parents and I would like to thank you once again for taking the time and trouble to complete the questionnaire.

A new Questionnaire will be sent out in March 2018.                 Julia Hawkins
