  Welcome to Year 5

 

Welcome to Year 5, where we have a great team of teachers and TAs who are excited to be working alongside your children this year.

Mr Henshall is in Starling Class and Mr Stocks is in Wren Class. Our wonderful TAs are: Mrs Gawke (am) and Mrs Romain (pm) in Starling, Mrs Gilbert in Wren, and Mrs Rees working across both classes. We have Mrs Smith, Miss Eastman, and Mrs Bayliss working in Year 5 to cover PPA.

We have lots of exciting Enquiries planned for our Year 5 classes this year to make their learning lively and engaging.

Term 1– How are you helping to save our planet? (Book- One Plastic Bag)

Term 2– What does the Earth look like from the solar system? (Book- Cosmic)

Term 3– How can science help the homeless? (Book- Street Child)

Term 4– Who is trading with whom? (Book- Varjak Paw)

Term 5– Where is our twin? (Book- The Explorer)

Term 6– How can you show what you believe in? (Book- Skellig)
                What do forces actually do?

Home learning will be set on LBQ every Wednesday, with a deadline of the following Monday. This will include a reading comprehension, some form of spelling or grammar, and a maths question set. We ask that all children spend an hour on home learning each week, alongside an hour of reading each week.

We hope that your child has a fantastic time in Year 5. Our aim is for them to develop a real love for learning and recognise their potential as learners and as citizens of our school and community. We are proud to have high expectations of ourselves and the children we teach and look forward to working closely with them over the coming terms.
