A warm welcome from the Year 1 Team

The Year One teachers this year are Mrs Le Cluse and Mrs Peters, who teach the children in Newbury Class and Miss Fleming and Mrs Carter who teach the children in Haydock Class. Our wonderful Year 1 teaching assistants are Mrs Pickering, Mrs Gawke and Mrs Knight.

In Year 1 we aim to provide a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for children, as they make the transition into Key Stage 1. We continue to build upon the children’s successes from their first year of school whilst introducing them to a more structured style of learning.

Our exciting enquiry topics and books this year are:

Term 1:  The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr

What is my hat made of?

Term 2: Stick Man by Julia Donaldson

Who helps who? and How do we move around?

Term 3: Paddington by Michael Bond

Where is my school?

Term 4: Tadpole’s Promise by Jeanne Willis

What am I? and What do artists do?

Term 5: Lucy and Tom at The Seaside by Shirley Hughes

How could we play in different ways?

Term 6: Jack and the Beanstalk (A traditional tale)

What grows near me? and What might I do in the future?

We really value the support of our Year 1 Parents and Carers and we will provide additional opportunities for learning at home throughout the course of the year through weekly phonics home learning, reading books and maths activities also. As always, if you do have any questions or feel you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We are here to help.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Year 1. We look forward to teaching your wonderful children this year and also working alongside you.
